The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said that more than 2 500 people were arrested on Sunday for various COVID-19-related offences.
The Police said the cumulative number of arrests made for COVID-19 violations since 30 January 2020 now stands at 1 447 510.
In another development, ZRP arrested 1 271 people on Sunday in an operation targeting unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles. ZRP said in a statement:
The ZRP reports that on 16/01/22, 2 653 people were arrested for various offences related to COVID-19. Since 30/03/20, a total of 1 447 510 have been arrested for COVID-19 violations.
On 16/01/22, 1 271 arrests were recorded on an operation targeting unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles. The cumulative number of arrests stands at 2238.
Meanwhile, on 16/01/22, 534 people were arrested on Operation’ No to Cross Border Crimes/ Fhasi Ngamilandu Yamukanoni Yamashango/Mhosva Pamiganhu Ngadzipere/Amacala Kawaphele Emingceleni Yelizwe’. The cumulative number of arrests stands at 96 054.
Under current level 2 lockdown measures, wearing of masks in public places remains mandatory, shops have to close at 7 PM and a curfew is in place between 9 PM and 6 AM, among other measures.
