Belvedere And Morgan Zintec Students Appear In Court For Protesting Against Fees' Hike

Ten (10) Belvedere Technical Teachers College and Morgan Zintec Teachers College student teachers appeared before a Harare Magistrate this Tuesday facing charges of disorderly conduct in a public place

The student teachers who are represented by Paida Saurombe and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights( ZLHR), pleaded not guilty when their trial commenced today. In an update, ZLHR said:

At Harare Magistrates Court, 10 Belvedere Technical Teachers College & Morgan Zintec Teachers College students pleaded not guilty when their trial commenced today on charges of disorderly conduct in a public place as defined in section 41 of Criminal Code.

The 10 student teachers, who are represented by @PaidaSaurombe & @TinasheChinox of @ZLHRLawyers, were arrested in September for allegedly protesting against fees’ hike & for being barred access to campus if one hasn’t paid tuition fees in full.

In September last, the lawyers said the students were rounded up at Belvedere Technical Teachers College, “severely assaulted” and were initially held at Milton Park police station before being transferred to Harare Central police station.
