Zimbabwe has donated 50 000 doses of the Chinese-developed Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and medical oxygen to Botswana to help the country fight the novel coronavirus.
The donation was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as he opened the third session of the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission in Victoria Falls on Friday. He said:
In the spirit of Ubuntu and our strong fraternal relations, the Government and people of Zimbabwe are pleased to donate 50 000 Sinopharm vaccine doses as well as medical oxygen to the Government and people of Botswana.
Please accept, Your Excellency, this humble gesture as our show of support and solidarity in this collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month Mnangagwa said that China would be donating a further 10 million COVID-19 vaccine doses over the course of 2022.
As of Friday, 25 February, 4 350 925 Zimbabweans had received at least one vaccine dose.
