Machiri Appointed As The Substantive Registrar-General

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Henry Tawona Machiri as the substantive Registrar-General in the Civil Registry Department.

Machiri had been the Deputy Registrar General before he was appointed acting Registrar General in 2020.

His appointment as acting Registrar General came after the then Registrar General, Clemence Masango, was suspended on criminal abuse of office as a public officer allegations.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage permanent secretary Aaron Nhepera said:

In terms of Section 203 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) of 2013 as read with Section 8 (1) of the Public Service Act (Chapter 16:04) and Section 6 (8) (b1) of the Public Service Regulations 2000, the Public Service Commission, with the approval of His Excellency the President, is pleased to promote Mr Henry Tawona Machiri to the post of Registrar General, in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage with effect from the date of assumption of duty.

The commission, with the concurrence of Treasury, shall fix his conditions of service, including salary, allowances and other benefits, from time to time.

Nhepera said the appointment of Machiri shall be subject to security vetting and satisfactory medical examinations.

Machiri served as the ICT Director in the Registrar General’s Department and has been with the Department for more than 22 years.
