U.S. City Proclaims 14 May DOMINIC BENHURA DAY After Zimbabwean Sculptor

The city of Carmel, Indiana, United States of America (USA) has proclaimed 14 May as the DOMINIC BENHURA DAY after Zimbabwean sculptor, Dominic Benhura.

Dominic is the Director of Tengenenge Art Community in Guruve which is an open-air gallery and exhibition centre. In a statement, James Brainard, Mayor of the city of Carmel said:

Now, Therefore, I, James Brainard, Mayor of the city of Carmel, Indiana, Do hereby Proclaim May 14, 2022, as Dominic Benhura day in the city of Carmel, Indiana and invite all citizens to duly note this occasion.

Benhura travelled to Carmel from his home country of Zimbabwe to participate in the installation and unveiling of his work.

Carmel City Council President Kevin “Woody” Rider and Clay Township Board Mary Eckard were joined by members of the Carmel Public Art Advisory Committee, the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Human Relations, and other City officials in celebration of the unveiling of this sculpture.

“Swing Me Higher, Mama” is located on the southeast corner of the intersection at Main Street and Veteran’s Way next to Carmel Chocolate Café.
