MRP Activists Replace National Flag At Zim Embassy In South Africa, With Party Flag | Report
A group of Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) youths allegedly stormed the Zimbabwe Embassy in Pretoria in South Africa on Tuesday in protest over the jailing of the party’s members by a Bulawayo magistrate.
The MRP activists reportedly removed the Zimbabwean flag at the embassy and replaced it with their party’s flag.
In an interview with Newzimbabwe.com, MRP leader Mqondisi Moyo said that the youths stormed the Zimbabwean embassy on Tuesday afternoon. He said:
Yes, it is true that today (Tuesday) our youths stormed the Zimbabwean embassy in Pretoria and replaced the Zimbabwean flag with the MRP [flag] in protest over our colleagues who are currently detained at Khami Prison.
The Ambassador called his superiors and they said they are not to lay a charge against them as they seek dialogue with the activists.
On Thursday last week, Bulawayo Magistrate, Tavengwa Sangster, remanded nine MRP members in custody at Khami Maximum Prison and Mlondolozi Prisons respectively, pending judgment on their case.
