Bulawayo PED Ordered To Refund Schools Money Paid For Promotion Celebration

The acting provincial education director for Bulawayo has been ordered to return the money paid by schools towards hosting a “promotion celebration” for her predecessor.

In a letter to all Bulawayo schools dated May 13, Jane Ndebele said they were “requesting” Z$7 000 per School towards promotion celebration for the former Provincial Education Director Mrs Olicar Kaira who was recently promoted to chief director in the ministry of primary and secondary education in Harare. Reads part of the letter:

Please deposit funds to the Provincial BSPZ Account by 17 May 2022. The name of school should be stated on the deposit slip and proof of payment to be submitted to the Provincial office Accounts department.

The letter leaked on social media triggered public outrage with many saying authorities must be economical in using resources considering the economic hardships being faced by parents.

The director of communications in the ministry of primary and secondary education Taungana Ndoro told ZimLive.com that the ministry had asked the acting provincial education director to reimburse all schools that had paid.
