Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has issued a statement apologising to its customers following data network challenges on Tuesday afternoon. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the telecommunications company said normal service had been restored. Reads the statement:
NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS
To our Valued Customers
We apologise for the data network challenges you may have experienced. Normal service has since been restored.
Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.
Econet Wireless.
The statement was issued around 2000 hours local time.
Customers wrote on Econet’s social media pages expressing their anger. Some suggested that the company was switching data network on purpose. Said one customer:
You don’t extend the data validity periods when this happens, which makes us think that you deliberately cause the network problems so that you withhold purchased data on a technicality.
Another one said Econet could compensate the client by awarding them at least one day’s worth of data.
Others said the disruptions were probably unintended as systems misbehave, sometimes, and there will be no time to give notice to clients.
