ZANU PF’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Chegutu West, Dexter Nduna, has been arrested over allegations of land invasion.
He was due before a court in Chegutu on Thursday accused of invading council land.
Nduna was arrested on Wednesday accused of “occupation of gazetted land without lawful authority.”
Allegations:
ZimLive.com reports that in June this year, Nduna allegedly led the invasion of Risboro Farm which is owned by Chegutu municipality and was set aside for urban development.
The legislator allegedly allocated the land to thousands of invaders without lawful authority.
Land in Zimbabwe has in the past been used as a political tool to get votes from land seekers.
Meanwhile, thousands of home seekers have as a result of the illegal allocation of land lost thousands of their hard-earned money as authorities demolished their illegal structures.
Nduna was controversially declared MP for Chegutu West despite losing the election to Gift Konjana of the MDC Alliance in 2018.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission later acknowledged the error but said it could not reverse the declaration while referring Konjana to seek redress in court, where the matter collapsed on a technicality.
