Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard has not indicated why Marvelous Nakamba was absent from the team that won 4-1 against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup second round on Tuesday.
The Zimbabwean midfielder was not part of the matchday squad for the game that the midfielder was being tipped to feature.
Nakamba is yet to play this season and has only made just one appearance on the team sheet as an unused substitute.
In a Tuesday post-match update, Gerrard, a former Liverpool captain said the club’s left-back, Ludwig Augustinsson had an injury but Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson simply missed out on being named in his 20-man squad.
The Birmingham Mail quotes Steven Gerrard as saying:
Luda’s got a bit of a tweak in his knee but should be available for the weekend all being well.
It’s not a serious one but there was no need to take a risk on that. Sanson and Nakamba are fine.
His absence comes amid reports that Villa are ready to sell the 28-year-old Warriors midfielder if they get the right offer.
There are reports suggesting that the former Club Brugge midfielder could be on his way out to Turkey.
