Key Reforms Will Only Come Through Dialogue, Not Confrontation, Says Mwonzora

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora on Wednesday said political and electoral reforms in the country will only come through dialogue, not confrontation.

Mwonzora said ZANU PF has a huge majority in Parliament, therefore, political parties should come to the negotiating table to discuss ways to move the country forward.

Addressing journalists at the Bulawayo Media Centre on Wednesday, Mwonzora said:

Our position as a party is that we cannot avoid dialogue in order to achieve key reforms.

The reality we have to live with is that ZANU PF enjoys a supermajority in Parliament, and they have been the majority since 2013.

If we are to go via dialogue, it means that we agree and what we would have agreed will then be processed through Parliament.

If we are to amend the Electoral Act, for example, we need to agree and cooperate with legislators from across the political spectrum.

Mwonzora said in the history of Zimbabwe, key political reforms have come through dialogue and he cited the Lancaster House agreement of 1979 which brought about the majority rule in the country and the 1987 Unity Accord which brought an end to Gukurahundi. He said:

This is what happened throughout the history of the country. In 1979, the issue of majority rule was a key political reform, and it came via dialogue.

The disturbances in Matabeleland after independence were stopped via dialogue which led to the signing of the Unity Accord between the warring parties.

People can argue about the content of the Unity Accord itself and whether one party won more than the other, but that is beside the point at this point and time.

The fact of the matter is that the Accord came via dialogue.

Mwonzora also cited the talks between ZANU PF and the two MDC formations facilitated by SADC in 2008 which culminated in the signing of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and the formation of the Government of Unity (GNU) in 2009. | New Ziana

Zanu pf is desperately in need of reforms but is frustrated by some big wigs in the party. Forming polad was a frantic move by Zanu pf to bribe his opponents to accept her illegitimacy status, however MdcA rejected the move. That is when Zanu thought of a plan to use some MdcA dim wits to destroy MdcA and create its own malleable MdcA which they were able to control, but the poor plan hit a brick wall, Chamisa still leads the biggest political party in Zimbabwe. It is no longer an opposition party per se, but a ruling party because of its strong support.

We will only accept dialogue if the meetings are chaired by the new King of Britain.We no longer trust SADC.

Although Mwonzora's argument is sound, he should remember that whether ZANU PF likes it or not, it is going to implement some sort of reform because foreign observer missions pointed out that there was need for reforms. POLAD and ZEC have submitted their reform proposals to parliament where they are discussed. I feel that even His Excellency Advocate President ED Mnangagwa, is tired of having contested elections. He now needs an uncontested elections . [ MWONZORA ACHAONA PAMA HARMONISED ELECTIONS KUTI HAANA KUNGWARA ] [ VOTE CCC FOR REAL CHANGE ]. Yours faithfully William Sonboy CHINEMBIRI [ THE BUSH LAWYER ].

Polad is just the right plartform to dialogue for reforms, Mwonzora should just join his bandwagon and settle for reforms. Leave CCC alone. Dialogues are just platforms to weaken the opposition more, they come with a bait and freebies to divide the opposition spirit.

Dialogues and Unity Governments are just an excuse for The looters PF to rest for a bit ,cool down the tension while they form new plans to destroy the country When RG died people cried and contemplated how great he was apa the real change was due to MDC T ministers Evidence i have is why does Zanu Pf remove corrupt free and efficient ministers like Chasi,Coltart,Dokora and Biti Munenge muchingofunga kuisa mapuppets enyu anozadza homwe dzenyu mega

@maparamuro the laws which you are talking about are being selectively used to punish the opposition. The judiciary i hopelessly captured you just wonder if we are staying in the same country. Say whatever you want but the country has gone to the dogs.
Maparamuro · 2 years ago
@intetested citizen the country in the hands of vicious dogs is not going to be served by confrontation but dialogue. You don't have the means to confront zanupf violently. Jobho is in prison and Chamisa akatiza military training even called party supporters who protested ****. He is a total coward and you believe he can lead a violent confrontation against zanu🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's a joke. Only way out is dialogue. Dougie is right
@Sanele Ntubeni · 2 years ago
They are not political dimwits, they have think tanks. Just now there is Polad, they should be dialoguing now, what are they waiting for. CCC has already calculated the dialogue move, he cannot dialogue whilst in a weaker position. Mwonzora destroyed the opposition, Chamisa built his own party from scratch, now he wants dialogue for whose interests. Dialogue to create unnecessary positions to impede the rhythm of opposition progress. Kabaphiwe imota zabo zepolad badialogwe bebodwa le, angithi that is their platform ....bameleni.
@Maparamuro · 2 years ago
Chamisa is not looking forward to lead a violent protest he does not own an army. The only means he has that would propel him to the helm is the masses. Dialogue is akin to the Zanu pf intra party endorsements which is not people centered. Let the political actors dialogue in their lavish polad platform.

The only reasoning voice in this madness. Zanupf is enjoying a majority in parliament and it shall remain so until we learn to use our brains to solve issues. No confrontation outside parliament will change the laws, laws are made and changed in parliament, the noise in rallies in stadiums does not change what happens in parliament. Parliament business is by negotiation not by force, Zanupf needs to be convinced on the benefits of reforms for Zimbabwe and we can't convince them through confrontation. Let them bark all they want these ignoramous, one day they will wake up and realise you have been right all along

I m surprised by mwinzora's thinking.Mnangagwa and the loosing parties formed Polad and why do they want to force interested parties into their circle?They can do whatever they want and ignore Chamisa and his party. They fact that nothing is happening between Mnangagwa and his Polad associates proves that Dogie and Mnangagwa are just trying to hood winky the nation and the International community .
What Reforms · 2 years ago
Doug is right.Reforms will only come through dialogue with Zanu PF. They command a majority in Parliament. Writing letters to the King of England, President of Ukraine, UN, AU, SADC etc will not bring about reforms. Anyways Nelson Odinga has now said with or without reforms he is going to win 2023 elections.
Maparamuro · 2 years ago
That day dreamer never learns, he thinks filling stadia and making jokes to his audience will bring reforms.
Sorojena · 2 years ago
CCC is not itching for reforms but for the 2023 elections. The polad stand has already been set for dialogue, Mwonzora should jump in and get a brand new car time is flying. For CCC ..the masses, the citizens are the centre for dialogue We dialogue as we go. We don't want dialogues that create loopholes for looting and creating useless portfolios.

ladies and gentlemen e country is purported to be making ostensible development # Zanu slogan!. Remember who is mwonzora and that he is Zanu 's hope politically. Now that Zanu is sensing a total dismissal of mwonzora in e political Field. So how best can ey keep him alive bz CCC is becoming to terrifying like a lion in e jungle.The voice of people is God 's message ,no one can stand against it
