Mnangagwa In Angola For Lourenco’s Inauguration

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Angola to attend the inauguration of re-elected Angolan President João Lourenço this Thursday.

Mnangagwa arrived in Luanda on Wednesday night and was received at the Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda by Angola’s External Relations Minister Tete Antonio, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Angola, Retired Major General Thando Madzvamuse and embassy staff.

He is being accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Frederick Shava and senior Government officials.

Mnangagwa left Harare on Wednesday afternoon and was seen off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, senior Government officials and service chiefs.

Angola held elections on 24 August 2022. Lourenco’s party, the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) won 51.17 per cent of the vote.

MPLA’s closest challenger, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), led by Adalberto Costa Junior, won 43.95 per cent.
