It is all very well to tinker with Hwange Thermal Power Station, but long term planning in the energy sector in Zimbabwe is non-existent. I grew up knowing that there were 6-7 hydro electric power stations planned for Rhodesia in the mid-1970s, but none of those have seen the light of day. Zambia undertook the Kafue Gorge scheme while the Kariba North was eminently able to supply power to the entire Zambian economy Zimbabwe, with at least 5 viable sites on the zambezi river has done nothing, let alone sites along the Pungwe river, Odzani and Kairezi gorges. Fossil fuels are medium term solutions as coal will definitely run out sooner than later. Our planning as a nation is pathetic
