The University Of Zimbabwe Announces New Fee Structures: Aug - Dec 2022 Semester
The University of Zimbabwe has announced new fee structures for the August – December 2022 Semester after an earlier increase had sparked protests at the higher learning institution. In a notice seen by Pindula News, acting Registrar, Dr Munyaradzi Madambi said UZ had also introduced Work-Study Programme to cater for “needy students.” Reads the notice:
NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS
FEES AND FEES PAYMENT PLANS FOR THE AUGUST-DECEMBER 2022 SEMESTER
This notice serves to inform you that, following the feedback received from our students and other relevant stakeholders on the issue of the recent fees adjustment, the University wishes to advise as follows:
1. For the record, our fees for the August — December 2022 Semester are as follows:
a. Humanities
Tuition Fees 184,800.00 Ancillary Fees 122,760.00 Total 307,560.00 Attachment Fees 66,000.00
b. Natural Sciences
Faculties of Agriculture Environment and Food Systems, Engineering and the Built Environment, Science and Computer Engineering Informatics and Communications
Tuition Fees 198,000.00 Ancillary Fees 155,760.00 Total 353,760.00 Attachment Fees 66,000.00
c. Life Sciences
Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences and Veterinary Science
Tuition Fees 231,000.00 Ancillary Fees 205,260.00 Total 436,260.00
Please note that the above fees are payable primarily in ZWL or the US$ equivalent at the time of payment; therefore, our fees are not pegged in US$.
2. In response to submissions by our students, the University has introduced the following flexible fees payment plans:
i. Students that cannot pay full fees are required to pay last semester’s fees and proceed to register before 30 September 2022.
ii. The University is conducting a ‘Means Test’ to identify needy students with the view to tailor appropriate support mechanisms according to students’ circumstances. As you would recall, no student has ever been barred from studying or sitting for examinations because of either delayed or incomplete payment of fees.
iii. Meanwhile, the following student-centred fees payment options have been introduced for the convenience of our students:
a. Those who pay 100% of fees by the 31st of October 2022 enjoy a 12.5% discount.
b. Those who pay 75% of fees by 31st October 2022 enjoy a 10% discount on the amount paid.
c. Those who pay 50% of fees by 31 October 2022 enjoy a 5% discount on the amount paid.
iv. All outstanding fees balances should be cleared by the 30th of November 2022.
Over and above the above interventions, the University has also introduced the ‘Work-Study Programme’ to cater for needy students. Feel free to visit the Office of the Dean of Students for more information on student support and welfare options available in the Institution.
