Harare Reverses Its Resolution To Have Some Services Paid Exclusively In USD

Harare City Council has reversed its earlier resolution to have some services paid for exclusively in United States Dollars.

A statement seen by Pindula News says the city fathers rescinded their earlier decision after consultations with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

The FIU had frozen the local government authority’s foreign currency accounts following the announcements that some services were to be paid for in USD only, according to Pindula News.

We present below a statement issued by the Acting Town Clerk dated 23 September 2022:

PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING PAYMENTS FOR COUNCIL SERVICES.

City of Harare wishes to advise its valued residents and stakeholders that following consultations with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit on charging demand-driven services exclusively in USD, Council has rescinded the earlier resolution in its special sitting on 22 September 2022.

This, therefore, means that charges for services across Council will be payable in foreign currency or in ZWL at the prevailing interbank rate in compliance with the operative Statutory Instrument 85 of 2020.

The City of Harare, however, encourages all clients who trade in foreign currency and collect revenue in the same to also consider paying in forex to enable the City to sustain service delivery.
