Small Businesses Lament Over Power Outages

Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well as households have lamented over power outages which they say have had a huge negative impact on their businesses and lives.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings this week announced new power cuts, blaming generation problems and shrinking imports.

The load-shedding can last more than 16 hours daily.

Members of the public are reportedly being forced to throw away rotting meat from fridges in a development that has also affected butchers who do not have alternative power sources.

Motor vehicle repair shops, as well as hammer mills in the high-density areas, have also been left struggling with increased costs of running generators to keep their businesses going.

Industrialists recently warned that the crisis could worsen considering that Eskom which supplies ZESA with about 400MW is struggling to meet the demand in South Africa.

Eskom, South Africa’s power utility is also facing power generation challenges due to ageing equipment.

ZETDC urges members of the public to use power sparingly.

The quest to takeover S. Africa and Zimbabwe gvts has changed dimensions. Will Ed and Cyril be able to counter the move? Too late, the takeover of Zimbabwe and South Africa by an elite group is almost halfway through.

In as much as we may want to adhere to the word encouraging us to use power sparingly, it seems not possible considering that power is nowhere to be found for use by the members of the public with the cut off time from 5am to 9pm daily. How can l use something that is unavailable at the time of need?
