First Batch Of Zimbabwean Teachers Set To Leave For Rwanda

The first batch of Zimbabwean teachers assigned to Rwanda is set to travel in mid-October. 224 teachers will be leaving for the East African nation.

Zimbabwe and Rwanda signed a Memorandum of Understanding last year which will see Zimbabwean teachers to the central African country to cover a skills gap.

The minimum requirements for the educators were a bachelor’s degree and post-graduate qualification, according to a recruitment manual that was jointly agreed to facilitate the hiring.

Leona Musekiwa and Faith Mukunditsa who are among the top education experts travelling to Rwanda under a government-to-government agreement told ZBC News that they will perform diligently. Musekiwa said:

I am very excited, I never thought I would make it this far. I want to thank our President for opening this opportunity for us and trusting us to be ambassadors to Rwanda. I am very happy.

I promise to showcase the best that we have as Zimbabwe. This indeed is something that we are very grateful for.

This Saturday, they joined their counterparts for a pre-departure seminar that familiarised them with expectations and working conditions.

The government notes the organised migration initiative is a bold statement of commitment to providing enhanced opportunities beyond the country’s borders.

I support government assisted export of labour to lucrative markets. Eg. if the government were to sponsor a nurse aide with say US1500 for training and expatriation to the UK, the ROI would be in excess of US $1million in a 1000 months given that the working individual would remit at least 800pounds per month back home. Let's do it. @cde chiwenga, and @prof murwira

Govt labour export does not pay that much, since govt would be deducting a huge chunk from salaries. Ask soldiers and police officers who once went on foreign peace keeping missions, how their allowances were manipulated by govt. The govt will ensure that you work there but under Zim conditions until some of you end up changing gitizenship.

This agreement is hazy to understand it comprehensively because Zimbabwe government was not clear. In Zimbabwe we are short of teachers, but we are exporting some to Rwanda. It is not that I do not understand what our government wants from Rwanda. Zimbabwe is going to be paid some Foreign currency by Rwanda. It is that component of the agreement which is not clear. How much is Zimbabwe going to be paid by Rwanda ? To those who were chosen to go to Rwanda, please behave well and do not shame your beloved country, Zimbabwe. 😂 "thank our President for opening this opportunity for us "😂 How can we be happy to lose skilled people to other countries leading to our children suffering the consequences. Shame.
