Seven Journalists Chased Out Of State House

State security officers Monday chased out seven journalists from State House where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was swearing in a three-member tribunal to investigate the removal from office of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson John Makamure.

NewsDay chief reporter Taurai Mangudhla, photographer Shepherd Tozvireva, Heart and Soul head of current affairs and news Blessed Mhlanga and reporters Chengeto Chidi, Zibusiso Ncube and Atrishya Gondo were booted out by one of the security personnel without giving reasons.

Daily News reporter Katty Nyoni was also ejected.

This happened soon after the journalists had gone through the routine security clearance process plus COVID-19 tests at the State House clinic, according to NewsDay.

Meanwhile, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere has criticised the ejection of journalists from a public event. She said:

What kind of “government” chases journalists away from a national event paid for by taxpayers? It’s unconstitutional. You can’t only allow journalists you like and control. Media freedom is impossible under this regime. We need new leaders.

AMH is owned by Trevor Ncube, a former member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC). He left PAC early this year citing a lot of issues bordering on President Mnangagwa‘s failure to transform the country’s fortunes.

This ejection of the reporters comes amid calls for the implementation of media reforms to ensure the freedom of journalists and media houses.

@Major I would like to disagree with you, not everyone has a right to information especially when it comes to matters concerning national security. Julian Asange & Edward Snowden are good examples of lads who shared the same sentiment you hold, where are they now? Both have been charged with espionage and are now labelled terrorist because like it or not some information is classified! Remember when you vote someone in power you have actually given up your rights to him/her trusting in good faith that he will do what he thinks is right for the common good of the nation.

That was a simple public event not a state security meeting papa. No explanation was issued to the journos, its just too Zanu pf to explain.

State house has been turned to a vaPostori sect shrine, everything happening inside is shrouded in secrecy. Kuzavuleka kuphela, sizabakwazi. Everything comes to an end

@CJSparrow remember everyone have the right to information(accurate and not that one being forged by the blue eyed boys of Zanu)... this z nearly tantamount to sensorship

In a Q&A segment last week the premier of UK Liz Truss only chose 3 journalist amid myriads of journalists, it is the president right to choose who he wants admitted to his place of abode, Mahere (I thinks it's CCC DNA) wants to politicise everything kkkkk I think when she gets pregnant she will say that the **** was manufactured by ZANU kkkkkk

UK is not a good example especially ever since Brexit but then again that's besides the point. Whether Biden, Truss or Putin does it doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. If an event is paid for by the the public then all accredited journalists should be allowed access
