The alleged mastermind of the ZB Bank heist, where US$2.7 million and $43,000 were stolen in January 2021 at Gwebi River Bridge, has been arrested in Harare after evading authorities for almost two years.
Shadreck Njowa was apprehended in Highfield, where he had been hiding, and is now in custody, assisting with investigations.
Detectives from the CID Homicide unit in Harare received information on Njowa’s whereabouts from a former residence and conducted a raid that led to his arrest.

The local financial institution recently offered a US$5 000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Shadreck Njowa and his two accomplices, Patson Matengambiri and Nyasha Chitera.
The robbery was suspected to be an inside job, with three security personnel in the vehicle allegedly colluding with the robbers. The three security staff, Nomatter Jonga, Mathew Simango, and Fanuel Musakwa, were arrested and have already appeared in court. The trio, along with 11 other gang members, are still awaiting trial.
