Rishi Sunak is set to become the United Kingdom’s New Prime Minister after being elected leader of the Conservative party following his victory against Penny Mordaunt.
Former Prime Minister Theresa May sent Sunak a congratulatory message saying he will provide the competent leadership the UK needs. In a statement seen by Pindula News, May said:
Congratulations @RishiSunak on becoming Leader of the Conservative Party. Rishi will provide the calm, competent, pragmatic leadership our country needs at this deeply challenging time. He has my full support.
Sunak is taking over from Liz Truss who resigned just 44 days after assuming the Prime Minister position.
Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Truss who took over from Boris Johnson was expected to curb the country’s cost-of-living crisis, industrial unrest, and recession.
The situation further deteriorated further during her reign forcing her to resign after just 44 days in office making her the shortest-serving prime minister in UK history.
