Mahere Says Schools Must Teach About Insurance, Not Locusts

Fadzayi Mahere, a former Law lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has said schools’ curricula must include insurance courses saying lessons on the anatomy of locusts are not helpful to most learners.

In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Mahere said insurance issues affect everyone, unlike locusts issues. She said:

When I say the duties of the insurer & the insured should be taught in school, monditi (you say) no, focus on the anatomy of the locust. We don’t all apply “head-thorax-abdomen” to real life but we all encounter insurance. Teach it. It’s not hard. Hatisikurwa (we’re not fighting).

Her remarks come as some Nyaradzo Group Insurance subscribers are expressing anger over the service provider’s policy saying it was robbing members of the public.

Meanwhile, the government is reviewing the current curriculum to find out the areas that need improvement starting in 2023.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education adopted the skills-based education curriculum in 2017 in order to produce learners with skills to solve problems rather than theorise issues.

But since the adoption of that curriculum, parents and guardians have complained about the implementation of continuous activity learning assessment (CALA).

In short I think Mahere was trying to say that the curriculum should be balanced and she sited one example to clarify her point she was putting across. Of course it's not possible to mention all the areas that need attention in our current curriculum and desires, we were just given a snippet of the discourse by the writer of this article.

This lady doesn't think at all. What's so bad about studying locusts in primary level? The problem is on us(parents) who fail to identify which combination is suitable for our kids. Primary level is there for us to see what a kid masters the most. Those who will be so much into monetary issues we then choose commercials for them. When you're an engineer you gotta find a financial advisor to help you out.

Fadzayi is wrong .Education should not be focused on commercials only. How about those who want to pursue biology? obviously they d want to know about the anatomy of insects going up to the anatomy of human beings .we cant have a situation where everybody studies economics or law or commercials.she s misguided

doesn't mean kuti everything Yu are taught at xool u have to apply it in lyfe eg I learnt quadratic equation at o level kana kumboishandisa ,, theory of evolution ku history haishande mu life,,, even at university we learned about Pavlov theory of conditioning but in real Zimbabwen life hazvishande ,so it's all about kuvhurwa njere not to say it's useless kudzidza hwiza

Ndosaka uchinzi Mutoriro. Pavlov's Theory of Conditioning allows me to accept how ZANOIDS are gullible about sanctions. Every time ED opens his mouth, all ZANU dogs start salivating and frothing at the mouth shouting SANCTIONS apa nyika yakadzipwa necorruption ZANOIDS = Pavlov's dogs

Shiz right, after 7 years in primary school to realize locust thing sbnot applying to your secondary unless at University when you focus on Biology of insects 😂😂😂😂

How many things did you learn at primary school you have never used in life?

Fadzi is out of touch with reality, it's not only the locust which is taught isu takadzidza nhunzi, mosquito, spider, nezvimwe zvipukanana asi zviri useful kune vakaita ma course anechekuita ne biology ku tertiary, vamwe vakadzidza English isina pavakashandisa in life, vamwe history chaiyo, vamwe maths vamwe science asi zvese constituted to basic education, zim needs people to know more than one indigenous language, technical skills for life and so on. What's so special about zimbabwe yet most countries including the developed teach kids about everything including locusts
