"Sanctions Worsening Climate Change In Zimbabwe"

A local environmental conservation organisation says sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by some western countries are worsening climate change in the country.

The Director of Green Shango Environmental Trust based in Hwange, Daniel Sithole, said the issue of sanctions on Zimbabwe should be included on the agenda at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP27) to be held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Sithole argued that Zimbabwe is forced to rely on fossil fuels instead of investing in green energy due to sanctions. He said:

Sanctions exacerbate climate change thereby compelling sanctioned countries like Zimbabwe to rely heavily on fossil fuels for their economic turnaround which is against the Paris Agreement.

As we head towards COP27, we wish this could be top of the agenda for sanctions on Zimbabwe to be lifted.

… We have the second-largest elephant population in the world after Botswana. We have a rich biodiversity with thriving ecosystem services making us one of the most lucrative destinations to visit in terms of tourism.

However, sanctions brew a negative narrative that blocks funding for our conservation, and this fuels human-wildlife conflict.

Zimbabwe is a signatory to the Paris Agreement to end coal emissions by 2030 but sanctions work against such ambitions as the country suffers limited funding for renewable energy.

As we approach COP27, we want it known that climate change is real and affects the economy, and leaves environmentalists with a mammoth task in pursuit of advocacy for sustainable development.

The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change and it covers climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. | Chronicle

We know ZANU inoruka but apa yandirukira bhero chairo apa. Wickneil flew to the US kunotenga bhutsu nemari yema solar, RSA businessman aida kuisa solar akaisirwa redtape cos anga aramba kubuditsa chiokomuhomwe kuma government officials (most of which had no relationship with the energy ministry). Anyone seeing sanctions there is maaaad. ZANU will grill every ministry kusvika kana ku Home Affairs or Justice so they can keep singing the antisanctions song. But this here is a disturbingly ingenious blame yavapinza, I hope one day these minds making up this stuff will be put to good use sooner than later.

If sanctions are hurtful as some of us are alleging, let all citizens March against ZANU PF' government who are not implimentiing [THE RULE OF LAW, CONTINUOS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND CONTINUED CORRUPT PRACTICES ]. Those who have imposed sanctions came out cleanly and said they will not remove sanctions because of long marches. [ ZVAVA KWATIRI ISU KUFUKA KANA KUREGERA ]. ZANU PF''s so called second administration, must not use sanctions as their scapegoat at every turn of events. [ WHY CAN THEY NOT SEE THAT THEIR ELITES ARE CORRUPT AND ARE FUELING THE COLLAPSE OF THE ECONOMY ]. All citizens must reorganised so that they meet ZANU PF head on at the Harmonised Elections in 2023 ]. Yours sincerely William Sonboy CHINEMBIRI [THE BUSH LAWYER4CCC].

Sanctions are real and sanctions must be felt for their effectiveness. The problem is the masses who are feeling the double impact of sanctions. one from the west the so called targeted and the one from the south which include local oppression from ZANU. The only way out is to kick out ZANU by force and then confront the west on the table.

CCC has done nothing as of present to penetrate the rural areas , it has no structures at all in the most remotest parts of the country whilst Zanu pf is always campaigning there. Kutemba urban vote has yielded nothing in the past 20 years. Even Zanu pf rigging machine they are failing to deal with it. At the end Zanu pf will rule kusvika madhongi amera nyanga.

taura halo... such statement will scare away investors in our beloved nation. what type of impact do they play in the climate change, some people they just talk without taking into consideration that what they saying does it has logic or what. come on we better than this sanctions having effect on climate change, apo musango kwapindwa. even an ecd child will laugh at such statement, imagine assist your child with home work and you raise such statements that sanctions are affecting climate change. in respect of you your child won't argue but simple close his/her books and go and do the home work alone. 🤔🤔🤔
