Tynwald High School Bus Driver Arrested | Report

The driver of the Tynwald High School bus that was involved in a fatal road accident in Nyanga last month has been arrested, a Sunday Mail report claims.

Machimbidzofa Chamunorwa was picked up by Nyanga police in Harare on Tuesday after being on the run for close to three weeks.

He was reportedly arrested in Harare where he was going around offering condolences to the parents of the deceased.

MacMillan Mutusva, one of the parents of the deceased, was quoted as saying:

The driver had been in hiding and nobody knew about his whereabouts.

He never showed himself after the horrific incident; he would send his brother and lawyers.

Chamunorwa reportedly only surfaced after the school head froze his salary.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chikanza, said they are yet to receive reports of the arrest.

The Tynwald High School bus was involved in a fatal accident in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday, 14 October 2022 around 7 PM, with reports suggesting that the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve.

Six pupils, five female and one male, died from head injuries after the bus overturned and landed on its roof near Pine Tree Hotel at the 75km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga Road.

The pupils who perished in the accident are Anesuishe Hove (14) of Bluffhill in Harare; Beyonce Guyo (15) of Madokero, Harare; Anita Manyuka (16) of Tynwald Harare; Destiny Dziva (14) of Avondale Harare; Kimberly Tarisai Mutusva (15) of Chitepo Heights, Harare and Craig Madanhire (age unknown), a male juvenile.

wether we choose to castigate the driver or to exonerate him,we must realise that accidents happen.Nobody want's to die.

The authorities have no intentions of castigating him, they just need him to be answerable and take responsibility for his actions or inactions

Everyman should be given the chance to fed for his family, even when under incasteration. Why punish offsprings for the sins of their parents.

Among other charges he would be charged with 6 counts of Culpable Homicide as the main charge. If he is convicted he is likely to be jailed for quite sometime. He must be removed from the society. He is a danger to the society. [ KUMHANYA HANDIKO KUSVIKA ]. [ IMI VECHAUNGA VHOTERAI ADVOCATE NELSON CHAMISA KUTI PAVE NE SHANDUKO NEHUTONGI HWEJEKERERE ]. [CHAMISA CHETE CHETE]. Hate it or love it running away from an accident scene if you are a driver involved is a crime so he needs to be arrested. He also needs to assist the authorities in determining what really transpired, but since he is in the habit of running away he needs to do that from lock up.

If it's determined one was reckless or negligent they will receive an appropriate sentence. Of course it will not bring back lost soul and neither will it soothe the hearts of those who lost loved ones but it will send the right signals to other drivers to exercise care and caution on the roads to safeguard lives. The reason we are in this mess is we say yadeuka yadeuka, and there are no consequences for reckless and negligent drivers. We have become an "inotambika" kind of nation, actions should have consequences, kwete kuti musiyei ane mhuri yekuchengeta. Every one of the inmates in our correctional facilities ane mhuri yekuchengeta and people who love them dearly.
