ZUPCO Now Using Black Market Rates

The Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (ZUPCO) last week raised intra-city charges to $800, which it also says would be equal to one United States dollar.

The official exchange rate announced by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe last Tuesday is about $635 to the greenback, while the black market rate is $800.

A memorandum, which was signed by Tito Chirau, the Belvedere Depot manager, and addressed to all ZUPCO crews, read:

You’re being advised to revert to the gazetted fare of $800 on all peri-urban routes with effect from November 4.

For passengers willing to pay in USD, crews are urged to accept US$1 for a journey without an extra charge having to be passed to avoid fare distortions.

Passengers paying in USD should be given a ticket matching the $800. You’re now mandated to buy your own fuel with effect from November 10 as all highway buses are doing.

Meanwhile, ZUPCO buses’ presence on urban routes has greatly diminished after the government reversed its move to bar private transporters at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Nyange mukapopota zvinengei. Chamisa akapinda ne cabinet yake vanotanga kufunga hama dzavo 1st , then kana dzaguta zviya zvinenge zvasara mozonzi chipiwai imimi. Plus u claim to be democrats but u hate it when I give my opinion. You contradict yourselves u educated fools! What is the purpose of freedom of speech and expression in a democracy. Does it allow u to usher out hate speech like wat u are doing. Corruption is everywhere and it's a fact. ED will win bcoz the opposition has no tangible means to overthrow the current system and it's machinations. That's a fact too! So where is your problem now? Keep on day dreaming kuti mbwende inonzi Nelson Chamisa ichapinda mu state house.

nhai @patriot, Chamisa apinda papi apa? ZANU has run ZUPCO to the ground. ZANU inherited a vibrant, profitable and well run HUOC and ZOC by Peter Hornblow in 1980, and now it's a shambles. Akoniwa haasiye bhatye padare. Its pretty evident ZANU has failed. We need a new captain of the team and a new team at that. This ZANU team is tired and has run out of ideas and steam. Don't blame Chamisa because he hasn't been given an opportunity yet.

@patriot. Patriotism does not mean you should support crazy things such as corruption and bad policies. A true patriot speaks truth to wrongdoers even if they are in power. In this life, never say never. They said Tsvangurai will never win elections & he won in 2008. They said they would never salute Tsvangirai, but we saw them saluting & leading the prime minister's motorcade & guarding his home. Freedom of speech means your opinions can be challenged. Doctorship is when you think people should contradict you when they think you are wrong.

there is no country which is perfect in this world. Everywhere there are also problems .So CCC don't take advantage of the Zupco saga

@patriot / parrot. There is no country without dimwits like you. Retarded mofos who cheer & clap hands while their mother is being raped in the mouth by a gang of armed robbers. Remember it was black people who kidnapped other black people & sold them into slavery in exchange for muskets (zvifefe) and gunpowder so that they could hunt for rabbits. I see you have come to love your slavemasters & abusers to the extent of defending their incompetence.

After banning private transporters & causing pain, misery & inconvenience to the people of Zimbabwe, ZUPCO is now using the black market rate. ED igandanzara zveshuwa. Vanofara kana vanhu vachitambura. Private transporters were forced to join the ZVIPICO franchise & their buses & Combis broke down beyond repair due to lack of service and spare parts. I think it's high time these old maGindagiriya admit they have failed.

The ZUPCO Dollar is set by a mere depot manager while the Zimbabwe Dollar is set by the minister, and both dollars are not a reflection of the Zimbabwean economic activity. At that rate we will soon be having all sorts of unregulated dollars.
