Walter Musona Voted Soccer Star Of The Year
FC Platinum striker Walter Musona was crowned the 2022 Soccer Star of the Year and his coach, Norman Mapeza, won the Coach of the Year award at a ceremony held in Harare on Friday night.
Musona’s 14 goals and six assists helped FC Platinum to win their fourth consecutive league championship.
CAPS United’s William Manondo was named the First Runner Up, while Frank Makarati of Dynamos scooped the Second Runner Up award.
The trio was picked from the 11 finalists chosen last month.
Manondo also picked his Golden Boot award after scoring 17 goals last season and had 12 assists.
Musona received a US$5 000 cash prize, Manondo got US$3 000, and Makarati received US$2 500.
The Fans’ Player Of The Season went to Herentals’ Tino Benza, who also picked the Chibuku Super Cup Golden Boot award.
Musona succeeded Joel Ngodzo, who won it in 2019 when it was last held.
The 2020 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season failed to kick off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nelson Chadya of Ngezi Platinum Stars got the Goalkeeper of the Year award and his club received the Most Disciplined Team of the Year award.
Jayden Barake of relegated WhaWha received the Most Promising Player of the Year.
The Referee of the Year award was given to Martin Chivandire, with Faith Mloyi coming as the first runner-up.
The award finalists were voted for by a panel of 50 journalists, 18 PSL coaches, and their club captains.
