Saturday By-elections: ZANU PF Win Majority

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) conducted by-elections in some parts of the country on Saturday 3 December 2022.

Out of the five posts that were up for grabs, the ruling ZANU PF won three while the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa bagged the remainder.

Pindula News presents the results as announced by ZEC:

1). Gweru Municipality Ward 5:

Winner: Mafa Mafa Kwanisai – ZANU PF – 556 Votes;

Shiri Cleopas CCC – 472 Votes;

2). Gweru Municipality Ward 18:

Winner: Manyundwa John Manangavhu: CCC 250 Votes;

Makwalo Walter – ZANU PF 182 Votes;

3). Mberengwa Ward 28:

Winner: Zhou Sithethindaba ZANU PF – 726 Votes;

Nkomo Nash CCC – 81 Votes.

4). Gweru Municipality Ward 24:

Winner: Chivhoko Martin (CCC) – 643 Votes;

Chingwadza Gibson (ZANU PF) – 300 Votes.

5). Binga Rural District Council Ward 20

Winner: Muleya Luyando (ZANU PF) – 945 Votes

Munkuli Crispen (CCC) – 546 Votes.

To date, CCC has won 108 out of 177 by-elections, a sign that the “movement has clear values, cohesive architecture for its operations and a mission that inspires hope and a thirst for change,” according to its national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere.

There has been “clamour” from some political analysts over CCC’s “lack of structures”  saying that will affect the opposition party in elections and governance but Mahere says CCC isn’t “going anywhere.

Notably, ZANU PF is making inroads into urban areas – perceived opposition strongholds at least since the turn of the millennium – prompting some to tip it to retain power in 2023.
