The Zimbabwe Republic Police (RP) has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the Kwekwe heist in which over half a million United States Dollars were stolen from a service station last month.
A police report published earlier by Pindula News noted that armed robbers raided a service station along Parson Road, Kwekwe where they got away with over US$ 582 500 and ZAR 58 400 cash.
Police say the suspect was hiding in Bulawayo. Reads the statement issued on 9 December 2022:
ARREST OF A SUSPECT FOR AN ARMED ROBBERY CASE WHICH OCCURRED AT ROCKDOX SERVICE STATION, KWEKWE
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Mathias Mushure (43) in connection with an armed robbery case which occurred on 27th November 2022 at Rockdox Service Station, Kwekwe, where US$ 580 840.00 and ZAR 63 430.00 cash were stolen.
On 1st December 2022 detectives from CID Hillside, Bulawayo received Information that the suspect was involved in the robbery case and was hiding at a house in New Lobengula, Bulawayo. The detectives acted on the tip-off and arrested the suspect at George MIilo Car Park, New Lobengula on 2nd December 2022.
The arrest led to the recovery of US$ 1937.00 cash which had been left at the suspect’s niece, Mercy Muisa’s (35) home, for safekeeping. The detectives went on to recover a Toyota Runx vehicle, registration number AEI 6671, which was bought by the suspect using the proceeds of the crime.
The suspect revealed that he had received US$7500.00 cash as part of his share for the robbery loot. Investigations have also revealed that the suspects had received inside details on the way money was kept at the service station and the general setup, from one of the suspects’ girlfriend Identified as Sharon.
The Police is appealing for Information which may lead to the arrest of other suspects only identified as, Shacky, Dingilizwe Mloyi, Terrence Ngwenya, Mutonga, Ngolile, Mangwiro and Mtunzi.
