FULL TEXT: Zimbabwe Parliament's Unity Day Message

The Parliament of Zimbabwe has issued a statement in commemoration of Unity Day which came about in 1987 following the Unity Accord,  an agreement between the Zimbabwe African People’s Union led by Joshua Nkomo and the Zimbabwe African National Union led by Robert Mugabe. Pindula News presents the message below:

UNITY DAY MESSAGE The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Advocate Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda, the President of the Senate, Hon. Mabel Memory Chinomona, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Tsitsi Gezi, the Deputy President of the Senate, Hon. Lt (Rtd) General Michael Reuben Nyambuya, the Clerk of Parliament Mr. Kennedy Mugove Chokuda, Members and Staff of Parliament, join His Excellency, the President, Dr E.D Mnangagwa, and the nation at large in commemorating Unity Day. As the age-old adage goes, “United we stand, divided we fall”. This is the anchor of our Unity Accord celebration and the pinnacle of our national peace.

This auspicious occasion, birthed by the signing of the historic Unity Accord which ushered the nation into an abiding political tranquillity, should never be taken for granted. The Unity Accord deserves cherishment by all peace-loving Zimbabwean citizens. No wonder the galvanising spirit of nationalism and patriotism, the quintessential fabric of this great nation, is being strengthened under the able stewardship of His Excellency, the President, Dr. E.D Mnangagwa. His Excellency, the President, is committed to a progressive state where “no one and no place is left behind “. Consequently, the tentacles of development are being felt across the length and breadth of our beloved country, including formerly marginalised communities and the hinterlands as a result of the peaceful environment germinated by our celebrated Unity Accord.

We, at Parliament of Zimbabwe, reiterate the call by President Mnangagwa for a peaceful environment, especially as the nation is on the cusp of imminent General elections in 2023. The Unity Day is a timely reminder of our strength in unity and that we can only “build brick by brick, stone by stone” if we are a united force! It is, therefore, pertinent to call on the nation to unite against divisive forces that are keen on fomenting disharmony in our country. The nation should rally behind His Excellency’s vision for an upper-middle-income nation by 2030 predicated on the peaceful fruits of our Unity Accord.

LONG LIVE OUR UNITY ACCORD!!!! LONG LIVE A UNITED ZIMBABWE!!!! A Strong, Independent, People Driven, World Class Parliament A SAZ ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFIED ORGANISATION
