89 Russian Soldiers Killed In Single Ukrainian Missile Attack

Russia suffered its worst military losses since the war in Ukraine in an attack on 1 January.

Russian officials said that 89 servicemen were killed in Makiivka in eastern Ukraine while Ukraine claimed to have killed nearly 400 Russian soldiers in the attack.

On Monday Russia’s defence ministry acknowledged that 63 Russian soldiers had been killed in a strike in Makiivka.

Makiivka is a small city in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, which has been under the control of pro-Russian separatists since 2014.

A senior Russian military official, Lt Gen Sergei Sevryukov, said Ukraine had hit a temporary base in Makiivka at 12:01 am local time on 1 January, using a US-supplied Himars rocket system.

On Wednesday, the ministry revised the death toll upwards to 89 after more bodies were discovered.

The Ukrainian army’s strategic communications department said that nearly 400 soldiers were killed and 300 injured in the strike in Makiivka.

Russia’s defence ministry has blamed the unauthorised use of mobile phones by its soldiers for the deadly Ukrainian missile attack.

In a statement issued just after 1 AM (22:00 GMT Tuesday) on Wednesday, the Russian defence ministry said:

This factor allowed the enemy to track and determine the coordinates of the soldiers’ location for a missile strike.

The announcement of the large number of losses caused shock in Russia, with some prominent bloggers criticising the “incompetence” of the Russian high command. | The Guardian

CNN,CBS,Fox and BBC once reported sometime before the "Special Operation" began that the Russian government has deployed more than more than 220 000 troops and military hardware at the Ukrainian boarder and the Russian media and it's alies ( Russia Today,ZBC,Press TV etc) said that it was a military exercise and at that time they said it was Western media that is not telling the truth.....so now which media house should we trust ivo ma Russians varivo vakanyeba those Russians they lie just too much.in Russian if say the truth is only what is said by the state media if you say anything contrary to that the will close your media outlet and jail you.in the countries they report zvese l mean both sides....coz they have stronger democratic institutions and media laws compared to those Communist devils and their allies

@Tintin, you are giving me yet another hypothetical question to history. We cannot re-write history. Khrushchev was forced out by his own Politburo. Not by the Americans. Fact. I cannot answer a hypothetical question.

@ M thanx for responding.i won't waste your time anymore with hypothetical questions.
Machiavelli · 2 years ago
@Tintin someone (@Kiev) has partially answered your question. When the USSR sent missiles to Cuba in 1961, the Americans went on a diplomatic offensive (including threats) which forced the USSR Politburo to back down and remove the warship. As a result Nikita Khrushchev was forced by his Politburo to resign. As to your hypothetical question as to America's response to a Mexican threat, I can only give you differences in diplomacy. The likelihood of that scenario happening in minuscule because there is already a military alliance aligned to NAFTA (North American Free Trade Area), in which all North American states (Canada, USA & Mexico) have a common military Alliance akin to NATO. In other words USA has a diplomatic solution that will make it impossible for the Russians to have a foothold in north America. If Russia. post-USSR had launched a diplomatic offensive to keep its former Soviet Republics, including Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, East Germany, Poland, Finland etc. within the Russian sphere of influence. NATO wouldn't have grown eastwards. Unfortunately the Soviet Union federation used firce to keep its satellites aligned to the USSR such that at the break up of th Soviet Union all former satellites decided to go democratic and join the west for various reasons. Such is the difference in strategic diplomacy.

@ M thanx for responding.follow up question.had the russian premier not resigned would America have respected the sovereignty of Cuba?the same concerns of America then are the concerns of Russia now...you can not have a nuclear powered adversary in your backyard.l

Putin miscalculated the war in Ukraine, now he will be forced to negotiation table
Vlad · 2 years ago
Western propaganda is making a big deal out of this but you never hear them mention the death toll on the Ukrainian side. Russia is still ahead of the game and they haven't yet started using their best weapons.
Tintin · 2 years ago
they're controlling and distorting the true narrative of the war through their global media monopolistic dominance.but wars are not fought on TV...neither are they won in TV.

So what @Kiev?

Putin is the one responsible for all this nonsense. The was an ordinary KGB agent when the then USSR lost the Cold War and this did not go down with him so he vowed to one-day destroy the Western Allies/NATO/USA.They tried by all means to make sure that all former soveit Union states have leaders who are loyal to Kremlin coz to them if a former Soviet Union state aligns itself with the West it's a defeat to their Communist ideology ,if they fail to capture the leaders or to have their own puppet leaders they will take the countries by force and install their own leaders like they did in Georgia and they failed to achieve that in Ukraine. This killing of soldiers by the Ukrainians at a large scale will fit very into the Kremlins propaganda as they will use their death denounce the Ukrainians and canvas some local support ,and they will also try by all means to instill into the minds of the global audience that the Americans are responsible for this and they might use that as an excuse to attack a weaker NATO member in the Baltics so as to directly draw NATO into his failed Special Operation.Shame to this modern day Hiltler and those who support him.

Since February 23 2022 when Putin's misadventure into Ukraine started, I predicted an embarrassment of the Russian putsch. 11 months later puti is nowhere near achieving his goal and the tables are turning against him. This is the third time Ukraine has shaken Russia's military machine. The first was a helicopter strike 50km into Russian territory. The second was a drone strike right near Moscow. Now a third missile attack. In between Ukraine has forced Russian withdrawal from four strategic cities with Ukraine. Its only a matter of time before Ukraine takes the war to Moscow. At the same time Russian munitions are running low. They are having to depend on Iran supplied drones while Ukraine is getting more and better armed (for free) from NATO. Putin will have to find a diplomatic Avenue to exit the Ukraine fiasco with face saving grace, which is getting more and more difficult. The Hague beckons for Putin

Russian soldiers are poorly trained and using obsolete equipment.. Aimlessly firing long range missiles into Ukraine has no tactical focus. Ukraine are very good in conventional warfare paground. They are indeed inflicting injury to their enemies whilst Russia is conducting sabotage missions to induce surrender
