Econet Increases Tariffs And Bundle Prices

Zimbabwe’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by Subscriber Base, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has increased tariffs and bundle prices with effect from 1 January 2023.

In a public notice, Econet said the adjustment is to accommodate the 0.5 percent value-added tax (VAT) increase that came into effect on 1 January. Econet said:

Please take note that our tariffs & bundle prices have been adjusted in line with VAT changes gazetted in the Finance Act (No.2), 2022 effective 1 Jan 2023.

In his 2023 national budget statement, Finance and Economic Development Minister, Mthuli Ncube increased VAT from 14.5 percent to 15 percent.

Ncube said the country’s VAT rates of 15 percent are comparatively lower than the SADC regional standard VAT rate, which averages 16 percent.

Why are people shouting at Econet , yet people should be directing their anger to Mthuli Ncube and the zpf gvt, it is V.A.T which has enabled all services and good ms to go up by a minimum of 0.5% unotongoona wega kuti vanhu vakawanda havazive pano what is happening in the economy busy blaming tarrif increases on Econet yet everyone can see the elephant in the room. Blame Mthuli blame Zpf

Mr Ncube why not also adjust the civil servants salaries in line with what is being paid to other gvt workers in the region. Its only when you want to milk us that you make comparisons. You should be fair you Zanu people.

This increase will discourage the usage of USD bundles.imagine buying for 2.52 cents or filling out 3.02 cents. That will force someone to buy 4usd airtime just to use 2c in a dollar. I would rather go for RTGS or buy netone

this is sabotage, econet is frustrating every government economic policy . And why is netone not capitalizing by making available cheaper methods? just doesn't add up.what is cost of data in the region ?

the fact that econet tariff prices are based on black market should be investigated by authorities but then again we know how that ends..nyika ino so
Zuze · 2 years ago
@fedup, how do you arrive at such a ridiculous and ludicrous assertion? Do simple arithmetic comparisons between the RTGS and US$ bundle rates before you fart.

The 'increases' much touted about are nothing more than an adjustment to accommodate Mthuli Ncube's onerous tax. VAT has been increased by 0.5%. Having checked my bundle rate, I find the hullabaloo being made here inconsequential. A voice bundle previously pegged at US0.55cents is now US0.56 cents. The US$3.00 bundle is now US$3.02. That increase is not going to Econet, it is going to the voracious ZANU government which although not providing any visible services, never tires of taxing us to death

The increase is negligible and indicative of the 0.5% (14.5 to 15%)adjustment in VAT announced by the Finance minister in his budget
