ZLHR: "Police Officers Used Truncheons And Fists To Assault The Human Rights Lawyer"

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), a not-for-profit human rights organization which seeks to foster a culture of human rights in Zimbabwe, has condemned the police for assaulting a Harare-based human rights lawyer.

ZLHR speaks after reports that Kudzai Kadzere was assaulted with “truncheons and fists” on Saturday while he was attending to opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) officials who were detained at Budiriro 2 Police Station.

Kadzere spoke to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) and confirmed the assault.

In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZLHR Kadzere sustained a fractured hand. Reads the statement:

In Zimbabwe, this is how Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) treat legal practitioners. Our member lawyer Kudzai Kadzere sustained some injuries including a fractured hand after he was ambushed by about 40 police officers in Budiriro high-density suburb & was heavily assaulted, when he went to Budiriro Police Station to represent his clients, who had been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). Police officers used truncheons & fists to assault the human rights lawyer.

Over the years, police have been criticised for brutality against members of the opposition and government critics.

@Machiavelli. Don't be discouraged Dear Patriot! You know there are trolls , lobbyists , influencers and distractors in our midst who are paid by the establishment to cause confusion where intellectual discourse is taking place. These are the guys who , at every opportunity spew out acerbic vitriol , superlatives and insults from the Devil's heart in the comments section. Their objective is to derail the Revolution Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks! Peace!

From the breaking of this story, starting with the arrest of Amos Chibaya & Co., I have been itching to comment. But the contribution would have been meaningless in light of inhuman and inhumane comments pasted here. It's disgusting, disappointing and intolerable for anyone in control of all their faculties to support acts of violence against peaceful assembly. For the ZRP to have mobilised three truckloads of black boots in such short notice points at premeditated planning. For Budiriro 2 police station to muster 40 officers to assault a lawyer on a Saturday boggles the mind. I wish ZRP showed the same zeal in combatting crime and armed robberies that are now so commonplace. To attempt intelligent discourse with commentators who applaud lawless violence by supposedly law agents frightens the hell out of me. How can a sane human being celebrate incarceration of a fellow citizen because they attended a private meeting in a private dwelling in privacy? How can we jump for joy and ululate when 40 armed goons descend on a single unarmed lawyer doing his Constitutional duty of representing a client? Cry the Beloved Country

True there. Sometimes commenting on an issue becomes irrelevant if the comments section is infested with reckless and meaningless comments from zanupf thugs. However, it is the duty of everyone to stand up to these thugs and always say the truth and expose the tyranny and how wicked the regime is. We have a role as normal citizens to defend and fight for that which is right. Evil thrives when good people see bad things happening but decides to keep silent.

If they assault our public protectors trying to stand up for the rights of the persecuted citizens, who then shall stand up for US. We are on our own, and this Zanu govt is selfishly on its own.

we are now waiting for ZRP Spokesperson Paul Nyathi to announce a flimsy denial or a laughable excuse such as , "The Police is still investigating" Welcome to the reign of terror . Obviously, Commissioner Matanga will ignore the allegations . If they can assault a practicing lawyer what about the average Joe in the streets of Mbare?
