The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Jaison Muvevi who has been on the run since Friday last week after he gunned down three people in Wedza, including a top police officer, and injured a detective constable.
In a statement issued on Monday, 16 January, ZRP Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Muvevi was arrested in Mozambique today in the morning.
He also revealed the identities of Muvevi’s alleged victims who include an apostolic sect leader who was shot at point-blank while preaching to his congregants in the veld. Reads the statement:
Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police press statement on the shooting incident in which three people were shot dead while another person was seriously injured on 13th January 2023 in Wedza.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi has been arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique this morning.
Meanwhile, the victims of the murder have been identified as follows:
- Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine (62) of Zinzombe Village, Wedza,
- Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) of ZRP Wedza Camp and
- Munashe Mujanhi (20) of Mujanhi Village, Wedza.
The injured is, Detective Constable Tendai Mugova.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police acknowledges and appreciates the support given by members of the public in the pursuit of the suspect.
Equally, we applaud the bilateral relations with Mozambican Police counterparts which have led to the collaboration and arrest of Jason Muvevi.
