OpenCop Killer Jaison Muvevi's Family Apologises
The family of Jaison Muvevi Wednesday approached two families of the three victims that he shot dead in Hwedza last week and apologised for the heinous crime.
According to NewsDay, the family enlisted the help of ZANU PF, police, and local traditional authorities to interact with grieving families.
The negotiation team, led by Jaison’s cousin brother Bornface Mudzamiri, initially went to Musekanehuku village to apologise to the late Munashe Mujanhi’s family and try to make amends.
They made the customary payment of $300 USD to begin the discussions and to acknowledge that their son erred by committing a major offence.
They afterwards apologised to the family elders and went to the house of the late Madzibaba Silage (actual name Crispen Kanerusine).
The family of Madzibaba Silage was offered US$300 by the Muvevis as a funeral gift, but the Kanerusine family refused to accept the gift.
Madzibaba Simbarashe Nengomasha, a well-known head of the apostolic cult, was required to persuade the family to accept the funds.
The Kanerusine family demanded the presence of the accused’s mother who reportedly stays in Mutare. Said the Kanerusine family:
The Muvevi family was also instructed by the Kanerusine family to return and ask the local traditional chiefs for advice on how to exact the deceased’s spirit’s vengeance.
Muvevi’s family is scheduled to meet in Mberengwa, Midlands province with the family of Inspector Maxwell Hove, the third victim and the officer in charge of Hwedza who was also shot and killed.
Muvevi, a former CID officer, was arrested on Monday in Mozambique while fleeing from justice. He appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday charged with illegal possession of firearms. He was remanded in custody until tomorrow.
The murders were triggered by accusations that he was involved in rituals and occultism.
