Gokwe-Nembudziya MP, Justice Mayor Wadyajena (ZANU PF), and his co-accused who were facing fraud charges among other allegations have been freed after the court granted their application for refusal of further remand.
Wadyajena, COTTCO bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha and Fortunate Molai were jointly appearing in court on fraud, money laundering, and concealing a transaction from a principal charges.
They were accused of embezzling funds meant for acquiring bale cables and buying trucks.
Wadyajena’s Mayor Logistics and Danha’s Pierpoint Moncroix were also being charged.
Speaking to Pindula News after the court ruling on Monday, 06 February, Wadyajena’s lawyer, Oliver Marwa, said his client is now a free man. He said:
Once an accused person is no longer in remand, that case is complete for the purposes of the records and there is no longer a fetter on the accused’s right to liberty. They can do as they please, and they can have their passport back.
They can, if they so wish, withdraw their bail recognizance or the money that they deposited for bail with the clerk of court. Essentially, they are free individuals henceforth.
