The football world has been plunged into mourning, following the confirmation that Ghanaian star Christian Atsu, who went missing after the Turkey- earthquakes, has been found dead.
The 31-year old former Chelsea star was now plying his trade in Turkey, for the country’s top-flight side Hatayspor.
Atsu, together with Hatayspor sporting director Savut Taner, were among those trapped under rubble following the devastating earthquakes which have killed at least 45 000 people.
During a recent search, only Atsu’s shoes were found, fuelling panic among his family.
The player’s agent Murat Uzunmehmet confirmed on Twitter that Atsu has been found dead. He said:
We found Atsu. He lost his life. Sorry for your loss.
Messages of condolences are already pouring in as the football world tries to comprehend the devastating news.
