A 63-year-old man and his donkey cart were washed away by a flooded river in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province.
The deceased, Nhlanganiso Tshuma, a villager under Chief Fuyana was in the company of two other men when the incident occurred on Thursday.
Tshuma and his donkey-drawn scotch cart were swept away by strong currents as he attempted to cross the Mabonyane River near Maphisa Growth Point.
His body was found the following day about 5km from the bridge by the riverside.
A video of Tshuma being swept away is circulating on social media.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena, confirmed the incident to The Sunday News. She said:
The incident happened on Thursday as the now deceased attempted to cross a river in flood and when he was halfway through, he was overpowered by the water and swept away.
Tshuma was reportedly coming from Maphisa Growth Point on his way home.
