Champions League Final Defeat Was Torture, Says Klopp as Liverpool, Madrid Meet Again
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described his side’s defeat to Real Madrid in last season’s UEFA Champions League final as ‘torture’.
In the decider in Paris, Klopp’s men completely dominated the game but Vinicius Junior’s second half solo strike against the run of play secured Madrid their 14th Champions League title.
Ahead of the two sides Round of 16 first leg meeting at Anfield tonight, Klopp told the media that the defeat in last season’s final hurt. He said:
It was torture; we played a good game, we could have won it but they scored the decisive goal. You could see their experience, how little they lose confidence, they are there for their chance. That is what you can learn from them.
The German hopes this time, his troops will emerge victorious against the Spanish side. He said:
It is one of the biggest games in the world… and it will be a top game,” he said.
If we don’t play our best we don’t have a chance. Real Madrid doesn’t have to play their best to still have a chance.
