Herdboy Rapes Employers' Daughter (13)
A man employed as a herdboy in Lupane District, Matabeleland North Province, has been arrested for allegedly raping his employer’s 13-year-old daughter.
The suspect allegedly instructed the complainant to implicate her stepfather when he sexually abused her on several occasions, between December 2022 and February 2023.
According to a Chronicle report, the girl was left in the accused’s custody by her parents when they traveled during the festive season.
The accused was not asked to plead to rape when he appeared before Lupane magistrate Barbara Phiri on Tuesday, 28 February 2023.
He was remanded in custody to 14 March.
The court heard that the accused raped the complainant once and instructed her not to disclose the matter to anyone. Said the prosecutor:
On an unknown date but during the month of December, the accused invited the complainant to his bedroom and instructed her to lie down facing upwards.
The accused then allegedly went on to have sexual intercourse with the girl without her consent on numerous occasions whenever her parents were away.
He is alleged to have instructed the complainant to implicate her stepfather in the event that the matter came to light.
The matter came to light on 19 February 2023 after the complainant’s mother through a tip-off interrogated her daughter, who then revealed the abuse.
The matter was reported to the police on Monday and the complainant was referred to St Luke’s Hospital for medical examination.
