Harare City Council (HCC) has announced that it is not offering discounts to customers on the settlement of their accounts contrary to social media reports.
In a notice seen by Pindula News, the city fathers said they will publicly announce when and if they have discounts. Reads the notice:
Please be advised that the City of Harare is not offering any discounts to customers on settlement of their accounts. False reports have been peddled by unscrupulous individuals duping our clients under the pretense of issuing discounts on USD payment.
Council receipts are also issued instantly and under no circumstances should council ratepayers be asked to leave money and collect receipts later.
Council wishes to advise valuable ratepayers that when the discounts are available, these will be widely publicized and will be issued formally through council official sites. For more information please contact 242 753000 or 0788654356.
The city council has for years failed to execute its duties and responsibilities which include the provision of portable water, waste management, road maintenance, and other public services.
The sub-national government cites a lack of adequate resources.
Like all other local government authorities around the country, Harare’s main sources of revenue include rates and other charges from residents and businesses within the city.
