Govt Plans To Install 300 More Base Stations In 2023

The government plans to install more than 300 base stations (boosters) across the country this year to improve connectivity, especially in rural areas.

According to African Wireless Communications, the installation and operation of the base stations will be entrusted to NetOne, a State-owned telecoms firm.

This was said by Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Jenfan Muswere. He said:

We have sent our team to do mapping and scoping, and we want to make sure that we are connecting the unconnected people.

He said the initiative is part of the Smart Zimbabwe 2030 master plan which aims to improve connectivity within communities

According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) latest statistics for the third quarter of 2022, Zimbabwe has 14.5 million mobile phone subscribers, representing a penetration rate of 95.9%.
