Namibia: Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Set To Succeed President Hage Geingob

Namibia’s Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah could become the country’s first female president after the incumbent, Hage Geingob said she would be the ruling SWAPO party’s sole candidate in elections set to be held in 2024.

Addressing a SWAPO central committee meeting on Saturday, Geingob said all party members should rally behind Nandi-Ndaitwah when the right time comes. ZimLive quoted him as saying:

We are going to have one candidate only when the time comes. That will be comrade Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

So, let’s stop the rumours, dreams, fears and so on. The time is not here yet. The appropriate time [will come].

And we will campaign because it’s SWAPO at stake. There are a lot of things at stake. SWAPO and the country.

When you have processes, systems, and institutions, it’s not [about] an individual. It’s a question of our party and country.

Therefore, we have a person who will lead us, supported by all of us, whether you were opposed to [her]… that’s politics. It’s democracy.

You have the right to oppose, disagree or condemn a person. But when that person is elected, that’s why I kept on saying, don’t play the person, play the ball. When the game is over, you kick the ball away.

… When it’s over, it’s over. I hope we don’t go and have factions from now on. I’ve been hearing it still. It’s over. We have elected candidates.

When the time comes, we will properly campaign for her. We will do the campaign, some of us so that she is elected on behalf of SWAPO.

Nandi-Ndaitwah would be Namibia’s fourth president since the country gained independence from South Africa in 1990.

Geingob, who is serving the last of his two terms, succeeded Hifikepunye Pohamba in 2015.

Pohamba served as the second president of Namibia from March 2005 to March 2015 after taking over from the country’s first president Sam Nujoma, who ruled from 1990 to 2005.

a woman however is in some way of humbleness, humility,or as they say, mukadzi aripasi pemurume, not saying this in a gender descriminating way,but meaning its sm1 we need in power, who understands kuzvininipisa,Government is there to provide a service, not to make profit, a woman has high chances of understanding that because she has lived it,also like I always saythe morden ,women are more supported and built than men(look in xulz or the justice system or anywer)whilst the morden man is an afterthought, meaning an african woman would be a complete finished package to be President, again I'm not saying this to undermine men I'm just stating the facts. let me give these examples, there is a woman president of a country who willingly chose to step down for her country to move forward, I'm forgetting but I think you may remember, whilst here in zim we have ED,not much to say about him which hasn't been said, but also chamisa as well, not to mention the whole kupe incident and how much chamisa showed he values power over progress ,but also in zim we have a drug abuse problem mainly affecting men,but the most influential man at the time, who also claims to be a pastor hasn't done anything significant to help such an issue even though he can,,instead his more focused on being president to me that's heartless but that's me hanzi usafunge kuti munhu achachinja maitiro bcoz ave mumariage,u will regret, rega ndichidzokera kunoverenga hangu

What happened with Chamisa and khupe was thier own tussle, that's Zimbabwean politics and that's the environment which happens either you're men or women. That's the gender equality yacho yakatoitika paye. Zvese zvinoitirwa varume ngazviitirweo kuvaka dzi if you're much worried about that, gender equality isn't just on the good and nice things kah, men are exposed to both situations but they soldier on. If gender equality is really there let both these ****xes be exposed to both environments and whoever comes out, comes out!

Old or new,i think its the same, but a total change of the status quo is needed I have a belief that a woman has a different qualities compared to a man,and we need those qualities, munhu anotya kutambisa people's lives, that motherly love and care, look at countries that have or had female leaders, how it turned out
Zuva · 2 years ago
Don't manipulate what's on the ground basing it on gender equality. I think it would be equally fair if there was a female candidate rising up just as the male candidates then we put them at par since you want equality. Encourage women to step up into politics not just encourage men to accept women yet the women are nowhere to be found and those coming have shaddy characters, pamusoro apo waona grace aikufadza with all that noise. Newewo une problem

that's exactly my point all the thievary and corruption will be exposed,I'll give an example even though most don't like her,Grace Mugabe aifumura mbavha zvekuti dzaiswera dzapusa,it's smthing like that which we really needed, but people mainly focused on wants, and those were empty promises and removal of Mugabe
Zuva · 2 years ago
@girl child If you're basing a whole presidency on that alone, then we're so far as a nation of Zimbabwe to having a female president. Grace had double standards hapana chaakafumura, aifumura whoever was against her. People focused on wants and needs coz that's all that matters, we can't sit and listen to makuhwa when people are hungry, when the health and educational sector is crumbling...
