Election Boycott Is Out Of The Question - Mahere

Fadzayi Mahere, the interim spokesperson of the Citizens Coalition for Change, has said the opposition party does not harbour intentions to boycott the 2023 election.

Speaking at a recent presser held in Harare, Mahere dismissed reports that the party led by Nelson Chamisa was considering boycotting the election over pending electoral reforms. Mahere said:

So without a doubt, we have said I think since the CCC was announced on the 24th of January 2022, that we’ve been preparing for this election from day one. A boycott is out of the question.

Mahere also it is upon the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to champion electoral reforms as required by the constitution.

She said the party has a political reform agenda which is being pushed by the party’s Members of Parliament.

In previous years, Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, threatened to boycott elections if ZEC is not reconstituted.

However, Mahere says a boycott is out of the question likening an election to Christmas which comes whether individuals are prepared or not.

She cautioned that her statement does not mean the CCC did not care about political reforms saying it was the only political outfit that has managed to put pressure on ZEC for the implementation of political reforms.

Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold harmonised elections in July this year.

If CCC Political Party had harboured the idea of boycotting the Harmonised Elections, why would they waste their time campaigning ? [ CHAMISA CHETE CHETE ]. I do not know where this word is coming from. If you check with CCC Political Party's vocabulary, the word [boycott] does not exist. [ THE BUSH LAWYER4CCC ].

Ofcourse boycott is out of the question and the reason is you can't afford to miss the opportunity to be in parliament and all the privileges that come with it. MaUS$40K makatambira saka how can you condemn the system that pays you so handsomely. You can't go into a match where you know you will be made to score in a narrower goal post than your oppenents and then cry foul when you lose the match, it's madness. You are going into a match where you know the ref is against you, will disallow your goals, and give your opponent goals when they hit the side netting, you know that very well but insist you will play the match never the less. The match ends, you lose and want to complain to the fourth official whom you know will uphold the decision of the ref. Madness on steroids. One explanation is possible, your intention is not to win, you don't want any change of the status quo, you are happy with the current state of affairs because you are already benefitting from it. You are actually working with zanupf to keep things as they are because this is to your benefit

To out witt Mwonzora politically, Chamisa and CCC vachabvuma out come even Zanu pf ikahwina. That's the only way they can be recognized as the main opposition party going forward. It is actually good for the nation also. It puts pressure on Western countries to remove sanctions. CCC only wants parliamentary represantion at the moment. Chamisa wants also to be formally recognised as the leader of the opposition

😅😂🤣😅🤣😂😅🤣@Patriot this Chamisa must be an extremely slow learner🤣😂😄😆😄🤣😂😆😄 he was offered the position of official leader of the opposition in parliament in 2018 and turned it down. Accepting it this time will simply prove he is being manipulated by Zanupf, that we wasted the last 5 years fighting and arguing over nothing. It means he is a puppet waiting for the master to pull the string for him to move. He will be actually worse than Mwonzora.
