MSD 29 - 31 March 2023: Expect Isolated Thundershowers

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe has forecasted isolated thundershowers in the northern parts of the country in its weather forecast and report. In a weather update seen by Pindula News, MSD said the isolated thundershowers are expected in Matabeleland North, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland West and Central. Reads the report:

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS WEDNESDAY 29 MARCH 2023 VALID UNTIL FRIDAY 31 MARCH 2023.

The overnight clearance of clouds over the southern half of the country, namely Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern areas of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland led to cool morning conditions with most areas below 15°C. The rest of the day was mostly sunny and warm over these areas However, moisture still present over Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central led to partly cloudy and mild morning conditions. This moisture is slowly spreading further into the country, while cool south-easterly winds are slowly strengthening and flowing from the southeast coast of Southern Africa.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, THURSDAY 30 MARCH 2023,

Matabeleland North, all Mashonaland Provinces, Harare Metropolitan, Midlands and Bulawayo Metropolitan Provinces as well as the northern parts of Matabeleland South (Bulilima, Mangwe and Matobo Districts) are to expect brief cloudy periods and isolated thundershowers. It should be warm by day but mild both morning and evening. Masvingo and the southern parts of both Matabeleland South and Manicaland Provinces should be mostly sunny and warm during the day becoming windy and mild toward evening.

• Even when skies seem clear overhead, lightning remains a threat as thunderstorm clouds may be near.

• High daytime temperature increases the probability of dehydration and evapotranspiration.

• Differences between night and daytime temperatures can affect the health of vulnerable members of society

 ACTIONS TO TAKE

• When thunder roars it’s best to stay indoors. If outdoors please find shelter immediately; do not shelter under trees or in an isolated shed.

• Keep hydrated and if there is a need to stay outdoors for a prolonged period, ensure to wear a sunhat or sunscreen.

• Ensure the young, persons who are ill and the elderly are adequately dressed both day and night.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY 31 MARCH 2023

Windy and cool morning conditions are expected in Masvingo, Matabeleland South and the southern parts of Manicaland, with brief cloudy periods in districts such as Beitbridge, Chiredzi and Chipinge into Mwenezi. Mild by day and cool overnight. Mostly cloudy and mild conditions are expected in Matabeleland North, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland West and Central, with isolated showers which may be thundery in the periphery of the cloud. The rest of the provinces, Mashonaland East and, northern parts of Manicaland should be partly cloudy and warm by day, becoming windy and mild towards evening.
