Thief Beaten To Death For Stealing Cellphones, Bluetooth Speaker

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a murder that occurred in Waterfalls, Harare where a suspected thief was beaten to death for allegedly stealing cellphones and a Bluetooth speaker radio. Rads the police report:

Police in Harare are investigating a murder case which occurred on 06/04/23 at a certain house along Bradfield Road, Waterfalls. The victim, Nomore Mutseriwa (38) died after being attacked by a mob for allegedly stealing two cellphones and a Bluetooth speaker radio at the house.

Theft is common in Zimbabwe, with incidents including robbery, burglary, and petty theft. High crime areas include cities such as Harare, Bulawayo, and Mutare, and commonly stolen items include cars, money, cell phones and laptops. Precautions, such as keeping valuables out of sight and avoiding isolated areas, are advised. In the event of theft, it’s important to report the incident to the police promptly.

In a different case, ZRP Marlborough is investigating a murder case where two 15-year-old male juveniles stabbed Nisadi Maruza (25) to death with a steel rod in Mazowe. The incident occurred at Nduna Shops, SAS Mine, on 07/04/23 at around midnight after an argument. The victim had reportedly seen the suspects talking to his girlfriend, which led to the altercation.

Zimbabwean police often warn against people taking the law into their own hands, following reports of citizens assaulting suspected criminals. The police advise citizens to report criminal activity to them and to avoid vigilantism.
