City Of Harare Warns Warren Park Residents

The City of Harare has warned residents to desist from tampering with water, road and stormwater drainage infrastructure.

The warning comes after some Warren Park residents blocked storm water drains to allow for water accumulation so that they would draw the water for gardening resulting in damage to infrastructure.

The water overflowed to nearby roads and homes and caused some precast walls to collapse. The City of Harare said in a statement:

The City of Harare would like to advise residents not to temper with water, road and stormwater drainage infrastructure.

This follows an incident in Warren Park where some residents blocked storm water drains to allow for water accumulation so that they could harvest water for gardening purposes.

This resulted in water overflowing into nearby roads and houses affecting some houses in the suburb especially those of residents who have constructed boundary walls without allowance for weep holes which allow water to pass to the next drain.

Necessary measures have been taken to contain the situation.

The local authority has apologised to the affected residents saying its workers were on the ground carrying out repairs.

Warren Park is a high-density suburb located in southwest Harare adjacent to Samora Machel Avenue (Bulawayo Road).

It borders Belvedere, Westwood, Westlea, Tynwald and Saint Andrews Park and is close to the National Heroes Acre, the National Sports Stadium, Warren Hills Golf Club, and the Museum Of African Liberation.

Warren Park was named after cousins Robert and Hebert Warren who emigrated to Zimbabwe from the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
