FC Platinum To Provide Litmus Test For CAPS United's Mettle
Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defending champions FC Platinum are hoping to knock CAPS United off their perch when the two sides meet at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
CAPS United have kept clean sheets in all of their opening matches of the current campaign which has propelled them to the summit of the league.
Makepepeke, who are led by coach Lloyd Chitembwe, beat Manica Diamonds and were held to a goalless draw by Ngezi Platinum Stars in Mhondoro in their first two matches, respectively.
They then beat ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos in the other two matches.
However, FC Platinum get into the high-profile fixture in mourning following the death of Platinum Queensβ netball star Sbekezelo Ncubewho died suddenly on Thursday.
Speaking to NewsDay, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza said he hoped the tragedy wonβt affect the players in tomorrowβs match. He said:
It hasnβt been easy for us. We lost one of our sisters from the Platinum Queens. We are trying to cope with the situation.
Everyone is down following the development. We have been preparing well. We know the challenge.
CAPS United have been playing well, playing brilliant football.
They havenβt been conceding. They are well organised in every department. Itβs not to be easy. Itβs all about mental strength.
My biggest fear is I hope the boys wonβt be affected by what happened yesterday. We are going to try and get a result against all odds.
When the two sides last met, the match ended 2-2 in October 2022. FC Platinum had won 3-0 at Mandava Stadium in the other fixture.
