CiZC Urges SADC To Act Decisively In Resolving The Ongoing Crisis In Zimbabwe

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) has called upon the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to take decisive action in resolving the ongoing crisis in Zimbabwe. The CiZC expressed concern over the disputed results of the 23-24 August 2023 harmonised elections and emphasised the negative impact it has had on the region.

During an online discussion titled “Zimbabwe’s Post-Election Legitimacy and Way Forward,” the CiZC concluded that it is crucial for SADC to play an active role in holding the Zimbabwean government and its institutions accountable. They stressed the importance of a dialogue process facilitated by SADC that includes all stakeholders, including civil society and the church, to address the issue of disputed elections.

The CiZC urged SADC to push for transparency and credibility in elections within the region, based on the report from the SADC electoral observer mission. CiZC said:

There is widespread concurrence that it is in the best interest of Sadc to act boldly in finding a lasting solution to the Zimbabwean crisis which continues to have ramifications across the region.

Sadc-facilitated all stakeholders’ dialogue process is imperative to help cure the scourge of disputed elections in Zimbabwe. The dialogue process must in no way be a political pact and in this regard, the role of civil society and other stakeholders that include the church, is critical.

Based on the Zimbabwean crisis post the 2023 elections, Sadc needs to stamp authority and push for transparency and credibility on elections within the region.

The opposition Citizens Coalitions for Change has been actively advocating for fresh elections and has sought support from both the region and the African Union in their efforts. The CCC led by Nelson Chamisa wants the elections supervised by an impartial body like SADC, the African Union or the United Nations instead of the perceived biased Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

When someone signs an agreement, it is taken that the one who signed understood and agreed to what they put their signature onto. By joining SADC which became SADC we agreed to be under its laws, rules and regulations in return for whatever benefits we saw to our advantage. A country's constitution is a set of rules and regulations governing a country which the leaders are made to safeguard upon taking the oath of office. What does the SADC agreement say? What does our Constitution say? There really is no reason why someone can argue or comment on what is going on if they do not know the SADC agreement and the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

We need to understand that the survival of some NGOs is dependent on them churning monthly reports that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe. That is how how they get their funding. Elections in Zimbabwe are done and dusted, CCC MPs accepted the outcome and were duly sworn in Parliament. Zimbabwe elections are guided by the Zimbabwean Constitution not by Chamisa's masturbutory theatrics. SADC is a club, it provides guidelines on a range of activities, trade facilitation, elections, quality standards, movement of cattle etc etc.SADC cannot enforce guidelines, that is left to individual governments. In summary, our constitution does not have provisions for SADC, AU to run or supervise Zimbabwe elections. They are free to come, observe and make recommendations on how electoral practices can be improved in future elections. It is not the duty of Electoral Observers to review judgements (that's what Nervous Mumba tried to do) made by Zimbabwean courts. The crisis in Zimbabwe is about the opposition CCC to have a properly structured party and elect a new leader. #Chamisa haana plan# (CHP)

Its a waste of time and oxygen. The outcome has already been decided by phone call. Any "deliberations" is just an excuse for fat politicians to go and sit at a expensive hotel and make it look like they are doing something. That's why the meet behind closed doors. They are probably playing Fifa on the projector with headphones. The only shouting is when somebody scores. They will protect their revolutionary party comrades because if one of the domino falls, it doesn't look good for their domino. Results foster support, not talk. The ANC just wants to talk.
