CCC Responds To Father Mukonori's Call For Dialogue

CCC has warned Roman Catholic priest Father Fidelis Mukonori that he risks losing the respect that he commanded over the years if he takes sides in political disputes in Zimbabwe.

Mukonori was quoted by a local daily publication as saying CCC leader Nelson Chamisa should concede defeat in the 23 August presidential election and seek dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared Mnangagwa the winner with 52.6% of the total votes cast while Chamisa garnered 44%. However, Chamisa has rejected the results, calling the election a “gigantic fraud”.

Responding to Mukonori’s call for dialogue, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the opposition party is open to dialogue but not on the “winner versus loser” conditions outlined by Mukonori.

Below is Mkwananzi’s full response to Mukonori’s cal for dialogue posted on X:

A Response to Father Mukonori’s Call for Dialogue.

Noting the statement from Father Mukonori, it is essential to put things into perspective before responding to his call.

While Father Mukonori, has for years been a respected Father figure of the church in Zimbabwe, his conspicuous role in the events that led to the deposing of President Robert Mugabe through a coup by Mr. Mnangagwa diminished his societal standing and the respect he once enjoyed.

His skewed statements in today’s Herald Newspaper further affirm the questions that Zimbabweans have about the relationship Father Mukonori has with the Mnangagwa regime.

Father Mukonori ought to extricate himself from this partisan position if he is to retain the respect that he commanded over the years.

At the very least, the electoral sham of August 2023 did not pass the test for an election. In other words, the events of the 23rd & 24th of August 2023 cannot be a basis for Father Mukonori to talk about “winners & losers”.

This is the position commonly held by all observer Missions that observed the elections. In short, if ever there would be dialogue in Zimbabwe, it would not take place on the basis of a winner and a loser but on the basis of two of Zimbabwe’s political leaders namely President [Nelson Chamisa and [Emmerson Mnangagwa].

Their dialogue would need to take place outside the purview of the ill-fated & illegal POLAD Framework-a feeding trough for fringe political “leaders” who only care about their stomachs & the benefits extended to them by Mr. Mnangagwa to undermine the leading party in Zimbabwe: the [CCC].

Accordingly, a genuine bilateral framework for dialogue will need to be facilitated between the two political leaders.

In addition, the dialogue must include several other key Stakeholders such as the church, civil society, Business, women, youth, informal traders, etc.

The dialogue must be underwritten by [SADC] from the outset & be confined to only one objective: To establish a Transitional Authority whose sole mandate would be to deal with all issues that hinder a free & fair election in Zimbabwe such as the disbanding of ZEC, political & media reforms etc & the conduction of a fresh, free & fair election within the shortest practicable time to save Zimbabwe & indeed the region which may suffer the most from the spillover effects of Zimbabwe’s incessant electoral disputes.

CARRYING THE ELECTORATE TO THE NEXT ELECTIONS IS IMPORTANT for Chamisa. Those who agree with him will again agree or allow him to change the name of his party next election making it a new born political party. Kkkk

We cannot talk of an election where : - ballot papers arrived at 12 midnight. - intimidation was active. - rallies were banned. - candidates disqualified. - the public broadcaster favored the incumbent. - opposition activists were arrested, abducted and tortured. No election at all.

@political police Chamisa knew about all of that and still went ahead to tell the world he would. It's no like Chamisa did not know, Zim elections have been like that since the first election of 1980 and will be like that for a long time. Infact Chamisa still claims that he won, that the result announced by Zec was not correct. He only raised the issues of the uneven playing field when he realized his claim for a victory could not be backed by any evidence. But then we should always ask why he went ahead to contest knowing the field was tilted against him, an honest answer to that question will help the country move forward

Hostages never shout insults at the hostage taker who is pointing a gun at them, they plead for their lives, even the negotiators do not approach the hostage taker with threats of imprisonment, they plead for the lives of the hostages and will even offer deals of psychological help and reduced prison terms after psychological evaluation. The man with the gun always has the upper hand. It's called wisdom

Kkkk chamisa and gang are failing to realise that whatever they say are political problems will never have an out sourced solution, rather whisper quietly to father mukonori for way forward, sadc leaders will never set precedence where solutions are out sourced, its zim today, tomorow is botswana, namibia etc, mudhara wamunotuka uyu is the starting point of dialogue, i was in grade 4 in 1979 my father talked about him bridging bridges for zimbabwe/rhodesia then, he have seen a lot and is friends to a lot of hardliners, he knows how to deal with them, grow up from student politics to national politics

@maparamuro, there is something that should be acknowledged; we are the master of our destiny political parties come and go including their leaders too but Zimbabwe and and it's citizens still remain. At the moment consider everything is going in the citizens favour if it goes wrong than expected you will witness winds of change like what happened in 1970s.
maparamuro · 1 year ago
@Vhedza a local solution is always the best I agree and that it should be out first priority. I don't know what you see as happening in favour of citizens, Idhi has a gvt full of his family and other relatives, that's never good for the citizens. Vana Wadyajena nana Mupfumira and many others who stole public funds have not been prosecuted, Mupfumira was said to be mentally unfit to stand trial and yet she is back in parliament. You heard of Spatark Investments, a company that deals in black market forex trade and is owned by Idhi's son, the company that feeds the black market, today that boy is the deputy minister of finance, can you imagine what is happening now at the reserve bank? Personally I see nothing for the citizens under Idhi.

A rigged election; full of fraud, intimidation, arrests & imprisonment of opposition candidates & disenfranchisement of voters through late delivery of ballots, cannot have winner or a loser. Such an election can only produce an illegitimate charlatan. A pretender to the throne. An ursurper. Even the Catholic Bishop's Conference codemed te eectoral maprsctices. Chamisa cannot concede defeat to theft and beg the thief for dialogue. In fact the crook is the one who needs to initiate dialogue. Father Fidellis Mubonyori should act "ad majorem dei gloriam" (for the greater glory of God) instead of being partisan for the greater glory of sn election fraudster. Father Mubonyori took sides and blessed the coup against the reprehensible Mugabe. I also grew up in the Catholic Church serving Mass as an Alter servant. I nearly became a Jesuit after interviews with the Archdiocesan Bishop Patric Chakaipa. But when I grew up I left the Church founded by Saint Peter the Apostle after realising the evils that priests and nuns do behind their cloistered nunneries and abbeys. Not to mention the Holy Church's attrocities committed over the centuries including supporting Nazi German, Insurence fraud, land grabbing, selling tickets to heaven and Pontiffs like Pope Borgia who had a wife, children and wicked son - Chessarie Borgia and a girlfriend - Julia Fornessi. Fidellis Mubonyori was or still is the highest ranking Chaplain to the Military and he still is close to the Skilled Rebhara. Dialogue must begin on the platform abd foubdation of thuth and justice as espoused by the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace. Otherwise the dislogue will be a sham just like the elections. Maybe, Bishop Mubonyori should start by addressing the imprisonment of Job Sikhala & the nepotism & corruption which reeks to high heaven in the Mwene Mutapa government. I say all this in nomine patris, et filli, et spiritu sancti.
