Cholera Outbreak Under Control - Health Minister

The Minister of Health and Child Care Douglas Mombeshora has said confirmed cholera cases are decreasing countrywide.

This comes after the Government set up cholera treatment camps, suspended social gatherings and increased surveillance.

Buhera District, Manicaland Province, bore the brunt of the cholera outbreak.

Previously, the country was experiencing an average of 50 suspected cases of cholera per day. This has now fallen to an average of 20 cases per day.

Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Mail, Minister Mombeshora said the cholera outbreak is generally under control. He said:

Cholera cases are actually decreasing. We used to have much more than 23 cases on a daily basis.

To contain the cholera outbreak, which has spread to several districts across the country, the Government imposed restrictions to stop the spread of the disease including the banning of food at funerals.

The Government also established cholera treatment camps in various areas and increased surveillance and active case finding working with local leadership and village health workers.

Cholera will never end as long as there is no adequate water for ablutions.Cholera is directly linked to excremental pathogens. .If you walk around the ghetto you oftentimes come across a reeking stream of sewage tributaring across the roads ,from one house to the other. You just have to be careful where you place your foot . I don't know the situation in Harare, but here in Bulawayo, for the whole year the tapes have been mostly dry ,90% of the times.Water comes once every blue moon, most people are now resorting to borehole water . If life is like this,we have to strike a pose ,fold your arms and touch your waist, chille out relax laugh at yourself and ask your self : "how did we honestly end up like this,I know it's crazy but come to think of it,we have become worse than Rwanda,Kigali is now the cleanliest city in Africa, the Singapore of Africa, it's funny we are all fu.k.in blind,we egnored all the warning signs,We shouldn't have deteriorated to this mediocre level. We had a chance time and time again to vote correctly, and fix the country but we lost it.We are stuck with this sh.it hole for the next 5 years. Maybe then we will strengthen ourselves and vote for change.
