The issue of racial segregation is a bit tricky. I don't just wake up in my house in Borrowdale saying, "Today I'm going to Magaba, Mbare so that I may not be regarded as racist." Someone may also not just leave Magaba, Mbare saying, "I'm going to Borrowdale today so that I'm not regarded as racist." (thus assuming Borrowdale is still whites only). It doesn't workout that way. Government has to create environments that encourage racial interaction. Such opportunities have been squandered in the past. Some years ago, Zimbabwe hosted All Africa Games, if my memory serves me right. Infrastructure was built across the various cities and in both high and low density suburbs. There was then so much racial harmony with sports lovers crisscrossing both east and western areas without fear or second thought, irrespective of one's race or colour. Zimbabweans of either race or colour were seated happily amongst each other cheering the same black, coloured and white Zimbabwean participants, fondly waving the same Zimbabwean flag from the heart. To cut a long story short, this ended with the All Africa Games and infrastructure was allowed to waste away. Zimbabwe could not exploit the presence of the likes of Bruce Groebellor, Carlos Max and Reinhardt Fabisch to deliberately attract whites, Asian, and other minority soccer players. This happened successfully with rugby, hockey and cricket. I appreciate that there are some leaders who hate racial harmony because they want scapegoats.
